Weddings can be big and or small, there is no right or wrong way to do it. But if you decide that you want to opt for a more intimate setting, I’ve put together 5 of my favourite places that you could host an intimate wedding for you and your closest family & friends. Choosing intimacy doesn’t mean you need to hold back on the beautiful celebration. 

1. Your Family Home or Backyard

There are a lot of benefits to hosting a wedding at your home: significant meaning, familiarity, ability for an intimate set up that makes for a day that is special to you and your partner. You can invite your loved ones into your childhood home or your first home with your partner for a day that you will never forget. Depending on the space and the amount of attendees you could hold your ceremony in your living room and your reception in the backyard (or vice versa). Either way it will make for a memorable day! 

2. Cottage 

Similarly to getting married at your own home, or childhood home, getting married at your own cottage, or the cottage of someone you know, can be just as great. It allows you to share your special day with your loved ones in an intimate setting at a place that holds memories for you and your partner! If you want to have a cottage wedding, but don’t know anyone that would be willing to host you – rent one! This past summer we got married at my aunt’s cottage with 45 loved ones and it was so lovely to be able to get married in a place where I spent years of my childhood creating memories. 

3. Small Restaurant or Brewery 

Getting married at a small restaurant or a brewery will allow you to rent out a room where you can host your ceremony and then transform the space into a cocktail reception after. If you and your partner are beer drinkers, a Toronto brewery wedding venue sounds like the perfect option for you! A couple of breweries in Toronto to add to your wedding Pinterest board are Granite Brewery and Restaurant, Bellwoods Brewery or Spirit of York. If you are willing to venture outside of the city, I highly recommend that you do your research into a couple of my favourite locations in Prince Edward County. Parsons Brewery, Drake Devonshire, Waupoos Estates Winery & Restaurants or Huff Estates Inn & Winery are a couple of honorary mentions. 

4. A Park, Beach, or Somewhere in Nature 😊

Are you on the hunt for the perfect laid-back outdoor wedding venue in nature? There are so many great options for an outdoor wedding with a couple of your loved ones. The great thing about doing a small intimate wedding outside is that you can decide if you’d prefer to have a set up for your guests to watch the ceremony or you can have your friends and family gather around you for ultimate intimacy. If you choose to get married at a local beach or park just make sure you do research on the area to get the proper permits necessary.

5. Boutique Hotel 

Always dreamed of getting married in a small intimate wedding at a venue in Toronto where you and your guests can stay the night? Toronto has some beautiful boutique hotel wedding venues that allow you to spend your whole wedding day in one location! A few boutique hotels that make for an intimate wedding venue in Toronto are Gladstone Hotel, The Drake Hotel, Thompson Toronto, or The Annex. Can’t go wrong with any of these options!
